How Long Should it Last?
SMP is considered semi permanent. This means that if done correctly, and treated properly, the procedure can leave lasting effects for up to eight years. However, the treated area can fade over time, as skin naturally exfoliates itself. Also, someone with very dry skin can see the fading happen even quicker, as the skin can begin to flake and exfoliate the pigment off at a quicker rate. Following treatment, it is important to keep your hair and scalp clean, moisturized and healthy to maintain the new look as long as possible.
Maintaining the Look
Before, during and after treatment, it is essential to take the necessary steps to maintain the look as long as possible. First and foremost, begin to regularly moisturize your hair and scalp a few days following treatment. It’s a good habit to form, and if done consistently, can help with lasting effects. For about a month after your procedure, it is highly recommended that you avoid swimming, saunas or steam rooms while you head heals. The chemicals and temperature imbalances can have detrimental effects on the healing and longevity of your hair. Plus, in the same time frame, try to avoid being exposed out in the sun as much as possible. Along with the radiating heat, the sun’s rays can lead to improper healing and would affect the lasting results of treatment. Lastly, it is recommended to avoid heavy exercise for about a week after treatment. By exercising, sweat from the scalp and excessive body heat can tamper with the healing process, which may ultimately lead to the results wearing off quicker than normal.
